Have you ever thought of taking baking to the next level? Then check out the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (S.A.I.T). After high school, I had decided to take my passion, turn it into a profession and I will never think that I chose the wrong path. Not only do I have a diploma in Baking and Pastry Arts, but I can increase my experience by finishing my journey man, and then moving on to accomplish the red seal. It is an on going profession where their will always be a demand to fill full or part time positions.
As I addressed above, I went SAIT for my education. I know you are probably wondering why I am back in school, let alone University, but that is another story. SAIT allowed me to advance in my skills and understand why certain ingredients act a certain way. I was able to make products that I have never made before and perfect my skills when it came to writing and piping. Our classes we small and the classroom setting was a mix of hands on and theory. Although the days were long and were scheduled Monday to Friday, I will never forget the experiences I had there. I made friends and connections with those who are in the industry now.
Here are some of the products that I made with my time at SAIT:
Passion Fruit Mousse Cake
Marzipan Pear
A selection of Petite Fours for my Competency Exam (A time restrained 3 day exam where you are asked to make a variety of things)
My main showpiece for my competency exam
This is just a taste of what we learned to make in class as well as for our competency exam.
Has anyone else gone into a trade program such as Baking and Pastry Arts? It's a lot of fun and the skills you master will live with you forever. If I could do it all over again, I would. :)
Sweet Dreams,
Tyla

One of my best friends is currently in SAIT for Baking and Pastry Arts as well... and she says she loves it. It's amazing the things you can learn to do. Only one semester and she's already making amazing things.
